A power cable is a collection of one or more conductors side by side or grouped together, used to carry electric current. One or more power cables and their respective connectors may form a cable assembly, not necessarily suitable for connecting two devices but may be a partial product (e.g. solder to  printed circuit board with shell -newly connected). Cable assemblies can also take the form of cables or harnesses, used to connect multiple terminals together.

What is Electrical Cables?

Electric cables have the purpose of transporting electrical energy from one point to another. Depending on the end application, the cable configuration will be different and the design will always be based on national and international regulations.

Standard Electrical Cable Nomenclature  Each cable has a standard name. This designation consists of a series of letters and numbers, each with a specific meaning. This designation refers to a set of product characteristics (materials, rated voltage, etc.) that make it easy to select the best cable for your needs, including errors that can occur when feeding one cable to another. Avoid it. If the cable does not clearly display this data, the cable may be  defective and may not meet safety regulations or guarantee cable life and proper operation.

Types of Electric Cables

  1.    Low Voltage Cables
  2.    High Voltage Cables

  1. Low Voltage Cable

  • Switchboard Cable : Flexible Power Cable for wiring control cabinets. These electrical cables are especially suitable for home use, laying in public places, and internal wiring for control cabinets, control boxes, and small appliances.
  • Power cable : Energy cables for industrial plants and public places. It is common to find power cables in power transmission, industrial, and variable frequency drive (VFD) applications with all types of low voltage connections.
  • Armoured cable : Cables reinforced with aluminum or steel  for installations that are at risk of mechanical attack. You will also often find armored cables where rodents are hanging or where they are located in a space where there is a risk of fire or explosion (ATEX).
  • Rubber Cable:  The use of very flexible rubber cables is very diverse. Rubber cables are used in fixed industrial equipment and mobile services. The weld cable requires a rubber sheath that can carry a large current between the weld generator and the electrodes.
  • Halogen-Free Cable: Halogen-free high security cable (LSZH) with low smoke and pollutant emissions in the event of a fire, for control panels and public place wiring, all kinds of installations in public places, personal derivatives, emergency power supplies Suitable for use in circuits, public power distribution networks, and mobile services.
  • Fireproof Cables : Fire Proof Cables or Fire Cables are specially designed to transmit electrical energy in the extreme conditions encountered during prolonged fires and to power emergency equipment such as signalling systems, chimneys, audible alarms and water pumps. Their use is recommended in emergency circuits where there is public consent.
  • Control Cable : Control cables for fixed or mobile installations are designed primarily for small household appliances, manufacturing mechanical component connections, signal and control systems, motor or frequency converter connections, and external signal transmission. So you need to be very flexible. The electromagnetic field induction voltage can affect the transmitted signal or power connection to avoid the generation of electromagnetic fields.
  • Instrumentation Cable: Instrumentation Cables are flexible shielded cables used to send signals between devices in industrial plants. Especially suitable for optimal data transmission in environments with high levels of electromagnetic interference.
  • Solar Cable : These cables are especially suitable for connecting PV modules and connecting modules to DC-AC inverters. Thanks to those materials and the construction of the cover, it is especially resistant to sunlight and extreme temperatures and can be installed outdoors with full warranty.
  • Dedicated Cable: There are various electrical cables for special installations such as: Temporary light garland installation at the trade fair. Connection of overhead cranes, hoists and elevators. Applications in submersible pumps and drinking water areas such as aquariums, sewage treatment plants, drinking water fountains, or  pools for lighting, sewage treatment, and cleaning systems.
  • Aluminium Cable : Aluminium cables for energy transmission are suitable for fixed installation indoors, outdoors, and / or underground.

2.  High Voltage Cable

  • RHZ1 & XLPE :   HV Cable or High Voltage Cable type RHZ1 with XLPE insulation, halogen-free, non-flame and / or fire propagation. The best cable for energy transport and distribution.

Electrical Cables Attributes to Consider Before Buying

  •  Copper Price:  Copper is a product of the New York Stock Exchange and its price fluctuates daily. Copper wire prices change daily depending on  NYSE prices, so you can plan your shopping time. Just as you buy real estate when prices are low, it's a good idea to buy electrical wiring when prices are low.
  • Voltage:  Sifter cables are typically rated at 300 and 600 volts, while portable cable products are rated at 600 and 2000 volts for a variety of applications. Remember to check the applied voltage  and make sure it matches the cable selection. Get a cable with higher voltage capacity. This means it will be more expensive.
  • Amplifier AMPS:  Amperes are calculated by formulas that comply with NEC or National Electric Code. Not only do you need to know the calculation, but you also need to know if it complies with NEC's approval. Talk to your electrician to find out the size of the AWG you need, based on voltage and a few other factors.
  • Temperature:  Most construction cables are rated at 90 ° C, covering 90% of the temperature rating of homes and buildings. However, some types of jumper wire raise the temperature of applications that require high heat exposure to the wire. Standard PVC wire is rated at 105 ° C and PTFE wire is rated at 200 ° C. Purchasing the wrong  wire can limit the life of the insulator.
  • Protection:  The protection lies in the coating of the copper conductor. Romex® electrical cables are manufactured with less protection, but at a reasonable price for indoor use. The UFB cable has a very strong outer jacket that houses each conductor individually and can be laid directly on the ground without a cable duct.
  • Approval : Please ask the inspector for approval as there are third parties to reconfirm voltage, temperature and protection. These third parties are UL (USA), CSA (Canada), CE (Europe), MSHA (Safety) and RoHS (Lead Free). These approvals ensure that the inspector manufactures the electrical cable according to standards and reconfirms it by a third party.
  • Flexibility: It's solid, stranded, and flexible. A single 8-AWG wire  strand is less flexible than a 19-strand 8 AWG wire. The 8 AWG flexible wire has 133 stranded wires. Therefore, as long as you are comparing the same AWG wire, more stranded wires will be more flexible. Since rubber insulation is more flexible than PVC insulation, sheath insulation can also be more flexible. More flexible cables are usually more expensive due to the slightly more complex strands and insulation. Znergy Cables are one of the best Flexible Electrical Cables in Australia.
